The butterfly counts not months but moments, and has time enough. – Rabindranath Tagore
This trek is absolutely spectacular! Once we arrive in Cedar Mesa, Utah and pass the Kane Gulch Ranger Station, we will begin the trek at the Bullet Canyon trailhead. Piñon-juniper forest with its scrubby sagebrush understory will soon be mere memory as you descend into Bullet Canyon. You’ll have many days ahead filled with nothing but the splendors of nature and preserved ancient culture. Your trek will be spent completely immersed in the gorgeous canyon that provides a stage for the many ruins, cliff dwellings, and rock art left behind by the Ancestral Puebloans.
Bullet Canyon, Perfect Kiva, and Jailhouse Ruin will be glimpses of what lies ahead as we approach Grand Gulch. Totem Pole will impress you before continuing onto Step Canyon and Cow Tank Canyon. Marvel at the Big Man Panel. Pass under a natural arch before the Polly’s Canyon junction. Continue to Deer Canyon, then to Bannister Ruin. When we hit Collins Canyon junction, you’ll have a chance to explore The Narrows. Here you are near the end of the trek’s course, and exiting Grand Gulch out of Collins Canyon you will find your transportation waiting to return you to Durango after nearly a week of glorious Utah canyoneering.
